Children's Centre

Equalities Award

Beckton & Royal Docks Children's Centre has achieved a prestigious national award in recognition for its commitment to equality.

Like all public bodies, Children’s Centres have a statutory duty to challenge inequality, foster good relations and tackle discrimination against individuals and groups irrespective of gender, disability and ethnicity. The EQualities Award pays tribute to those Children’s Centres that go the extra mile to become Equalities Champions. To gain the award, staff were required to undertake a thorough audit of the centres policies and practice and supply a wide range of evidence to be independently assessed and verified.

Dr Chris Derrington, Director of the EQualities Award said Beckton & Royal Docks Children's Centre is a very worthy recipient of the EQualities Award and a true champion centre of equality. The staff and volunteers clearly work hard to promote diversity at every level, they challenge inequality and are determined to establish harmonious relationships with the local community. The evidence they supplied in order to achieve the award speaks for itself and the resulting portfolio really showcases their commitment to equality for all groups and individuals irrespective of ability, ethnicity or gender”.
